Our postponed September event with Vanessa Miller has been rescheduled for November 13th! Join us at The Matthews Woman’s Club, located across from Matthews Elementary School.
The Matthews Woman’s Club Service League has been connecting women behind a shared purpose of volunteerism and community support for over 30 years. The historic clubhouse was built in the 1940s for the American Legion and was donated to the Matthews Woman’s Club in the early 1970s.
In addition to cozy couches and chairs, we will also have tables and chairs set up for more seating options. We recommend bringing a small cushion or blanket to really relax. If you enjoy being outdoors, you can also bring a chair to enjoy reading on the porch or lawn. There aren’t too many months left when it will be light outside during the duration of book club.
Vanessa Miller
We’re incredibly excited to welcome Vanessa Miller as our guest author! Miller is a prolific best-selling author, playwright, and motivational speaker. With over 50 books written, Vanessa’s novels have received rave reviews, several appearing on Essence Magazine’s Bestseller’s List. In 2016, Vanessa launched the Christian Book Lover’s Retreat to bring readers and authors of Christian fiction together.

We plan to designate 15 minutes before the quiet reading hour for Miller to share about her latest release, The American Queen, a historical fiction novel based on a true story about a queen who ruled a kingdom on American soil. You are more than welcome to chat with her before, after, and even during the reading hour. Miller has such a kind and loving spirit and is such a joy to talk with.
How Silent Book Club Works
For those who are new here, Silent Book Club is called that because it is an opportunity to enjoy quietly reading a book in a location different from your home, where no discussion is required. Silent Book Club provides at least one hour each month of disconnecting from reality and diving into another enjoyable pastime. During our quiet reading time, you are more than welcome to chat with others or our guest author. Again, there are no rules besides relaxing and enjoying whatever book you choose to bring.

6:15-6:30 PM: Meet the author
6:30-7:30 PM: Quiet reading hour
7:30-8:00 PM: Continue reading, talk with others, author Q&A
Feel free to come and go as you please, staying for as little or as long as you like.
